Abstract
The article explores "colour" as an enabling narrative element that extends beyond its perceived decorative value or aesthetic appeal. It is an element that amplifies a content's expressive potential across literary narrative forms, including digital fiction, theater, and print literature. The study expresses colour being more than just aesthetics, but functions as a semiotic tool used by authors or designers to convey to readers or audiences the thematic structures, emotional atmospheres, and psychological states. “Colour”, in the print literature, allows writers to explore inner feelings and direct interpretations through linguistic descriptions. Colour is physically and visually embodied in the theatre through visual design, lighting, costumes, and environmental settings, which enhance the emotional resonance and symbolic understanding. Colour is not limited to print literature but is also used to create immersive settings in digital narratives, which influences the reception of the narration. The article further discusses how colour is narratively designed, mediated semantically, and culturally conditioned by writers employing various colour reception, design theory and theatre studies to enhance linguistic and structural interpretation while colours serve as a system of signification.The viability of colour by tracing its history of being employed from page to stage to digital space is explored. The digital narratives do not reintroduce “colour” as a symbolic catalyst, reforming the long-standing colour codes into interactive environments for the audience. The study classifies digital narrative under the genre of literary semiotics and recognizes the continuity of color analysis in literary and narrative studies.
