Abstract
Rangwali Pichhora, an integral part of bridal costume of Uttarakhand, has a deep cultural, religious, and artistic significance. This study investigates the awareness and knowledge of its traditional manufacturing process among married women native to Uttarakhand. Using an ex-post facto research design, data was collected from 30 purposively selected respondents through surveys incorporating both open- and closed-ended questions. Research findings reveal that while 73.3% of respondents have never participated in the manufacturing process, they have acquired knowledge through oral traditions. The study highlights a decline in the use of traditional manufacturing process due to modernization, leading to a shift toward alternative production methods like digital printing . Participants were aware of the base colour source—turmeric—but lacked clarity on the natural ingredients used for the characteristic red-orange motifs. Moreover to this , variations were observed in the tools and materials used, with traditional 25-paisa coins being supplemented by 10-, 50-paisa, and 1-rupee coins, as well as other stamping tools. The findings emphasize the urgent need for documentation and revival efforts to preserve this living heritage before it fades into obscurity.
