Abstract
This study examines the role of academic and social factors in enhancing instructor-student collaboration and their subsequent impact on students' academic success. By focusing on key elements such as active engagement, timely feedback, clear academic expectations, trust, respect, and inclusivity, the study identifies how these factors collectively contribute to a supportive and effective learning environment. Data were collected from a sample of 263 students across seven campuses of North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) in the Philippines. A purposive sampling method was employed to ensure the inclusion of participants with relevant characteristics and experiences that aligned with the study's objectives. Additionally, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted to explore participants’ attitudes, perceptions, and experiences in greater depth, providing qualitative insights that complemented the primary quantitative data. The integration of both methods facilitated triangulation, strengthening the validation and reliability of the findings. Quantitative data were gathered using a researcher-developed survey questionnaire, which was validated by five experts in Social Science. Statistical analyses, including frequency counts and weighted means, were applied to interpret the data. The study found that academic factors such as interactive teaching and collaborative learning significantly influenced student motivation, critical thinking, and academic performance. Social factors like trust, open communication, and an inclusive environment were crucial for fostering engagement, persistence, and a sense of belonging among students. Cultural backgrounds, institutional settings, and academic preparedness were found to shape the dynamics of instructor-student collaboration, underscoring the importance of tailored approaches. The study highlights that the combined influence of academic and social factors leads to enhanced student success, as students who experience both academic engagement and a supportive social environment are more likely to take ownership of their learning. Based on these findings, the study offers several recommendations to improve instructor-student collaboration, including fostering active learning, promoting inclusivity, providing mentorship, and enhancing institutional support. These strategies aim to create a more dynamic and collaborative learning environment that better supports student success.
