Oromoo in the Making, and Remaking of Ethiopia By: Teferi B. Doorsis (Ph.D.) Abstract Today’s Ethiopia has faced many challenges resulting from its early historical background. A load of experience and wishes & aspirations of today’s put the current generation in unbelievable confusion. The clash between these parallel interests has caused conflicts among citizens in every corner. Millions are displaced, thousands are dead, and there is bloodshed across all regions. These days casualties of the internal conflicts in Ethiopia, in its coverage and types, are incomparable to any period that Ethiopia has passed. Long-formed narrations on state formation and partisan forms of nation-building concepts that profoundly confused the generations have been rebuked all the time, everywhere, in every political setup of the country. Politicians have tried their best to settle the matter and are suggesting their solution for Ethiopia’s sustainable peace and an end to these prevalent atrocities. The prudent care to cure Ethiopia from its historical and political pain shall be unveiling and demolishing the wall of resentment made by Oromoo elites to forefront of long-formed narrations of expelling Oromoo from the country’s political hemisphere. The ‘colonial thesis’ form of Oromoo elites and the party who furnished the ground made them to develop such thoughts, shared a common agenda of denying the contribution of the Oromoo in making this country. This paper critically argues that Oromoo contributes much more than others to make this country, which is not suited to the Oromoo nation at all. Both primary and secondary sources were employed while conducting this descriptive type of research. The findings elucidated that the Oromoo contribution to making Ethiopia has three natures. Namely, in its self-ruled Gadaa Confederacy governance; in its sedentary life hampering politico-religious infusion; and as a politicized community creating Christian kingdom administration ideology were Oromoo endeavors in sustaining and building today’s Ethiopia for so long periods. Furthermore, the results of empirical and theoretical data revealed that the Oromoo shall have an unrefuted contribution in remaking Ethiopia which never stood and will never stand without it’s major contribution.
