Being pregnant is an exciting event for any women. The very sight of the baby on the ultrasound for the first time is the most exciting thing and things become real to the mother and her partner. The excitement due to pregnancy slowly changes to an anxiety as pregnancy comes to an end and the labor starts. When labor is near many women have fears and anxiety about their wellbeing of the fetus and the upcoming delivery. Obstetrical Anesthesia is a medicine to make the client comfortable during labor .Persons administering or supervising obstetric anesthesia should be qualified to manage the infrequent but occasionally life-threatening complications of major regional anesthesia such as respiratory and cardiovascular failure, toxic local anesthetic convulsions, or vomiting and aspiration. Mastering and retaining the skills and knowledge necessary to manage these complications require adequate training and frequent application. Hence the investigator decided to evaluate the knowledge level among staff nurses and educate the nurses through self instructional module regarding obstetrical anesthesia and its care. To bring better outcome this present study was aimed, A study to assess the effectiveness of Self Instructional Module (SIM) on selected Obstetrical Anesthesia and its care among staff nurses working in a selected hospital, Bangalore.
