A total of five brands of canned Sardines (Costa, Titus, Tropical sun, Mega and Sarah) and Mackerels (Costa, Supergold, Geisha, Dinor and Estus) were analyzed for contamination levels of Fe, Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd and Ni and the adverse health risk through oral ingestion were assessed. The levels of the metals were analyzed with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The concentrations (mg/kg) of the metals were in the range of Fe (5.09 ± 0.06 – 14.45 ± 0.12), Zn (9.48 ± 0.14 -19.09 ± 0.04), Cu (1.52 ± 0.13 – 3.57 ± 0.15), Pb (0.08 ± 0.00 – 1.74 ± 0.02), Cd (0.01 ± 0.00- 0.18 ± 0.00) and Ni (0.12 ± 0.01 – 3.49 ± 0.01). The concentrations of Fe, Zn and Cu were lower than the standard limits of regulatory bodies but, Pb, Cd and Ni were higher than standard limits. The Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) (mg/kg-bw/day) and the non-carcinogenic risk, Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) and Hazard Index (HI) values were within safe limits. The carcinogenic risk analysis, Target Cancer Risk (TCR) revealed that these canned fishes could probably cause cancer if consumed excessively based on Pb, Cd and Ni levels. It is also imperative to note that, Pb was a major risk contributor to the HI values ranging from 11.377% - 66.187%compared to the values in other canned fishes. Therefore, in view of the toxicological profile and the potential risk of these metals (especially Pb, Cd and Ni), and their contamination levels in this study, moderate intake of these canned fishes is advisable
