Abstract
Thainagi Leirang and the Reawakening Influence of the West Dr. R.K. Nirmola Sana Assistant Professor Manipuri Department Assam University Silchar , 788011 Abstract This Paper deals with a book of modern Manipuri Poems namely Thainagi Leirang (the flowers of ancient time, 1933). This is a representative work of twenty beautiful lyric poems of Kh. Chaoba (1896-1949) a pioneer poet of modern Manipuri literature. This is fine literary work of the poet who had a literary talent with and who also set the early modern Manipuri literature in motion under the wider reawakening western influence. The writing is of a peculiar style in the form of beautiful lyric poem a literary genre which is nothing but a result of the western influence in the region. The writing gained a powerful momentum giving new literary appeal to the readers. This is because of a paradigm shift in the history of Manipuri literature at the advent of 20th century. This is a escape from the yolk of preceding paradigm which flourished under the impact of vaishnavism. The present writing is an effort to create a new literary value with a wider perspective of life a pathetic effor for the upliftment and revivalism of tradition, life and beauty of by – gone days with a overtone of a new literary paradigm.
