Technology and gadgets today are indispensable in our daily lives. We can get many things online at our doorstep without even stepping outside our homes, we get to know each and every piece of information at our fingertips, online transactions, etc. It can be said that technology has made our life easy, but at the same time, it has made us lazy too. During the pandemic time, children’s gadget usage and engagement with social networking sites have drastically increased. Gadgets served multiple purposes like helping children to stay connected to their learnings & academics (Online classes), get News updates, recreation, networking on social media platforms for communication, entertainment, etc. It has been a necessity as well as an excuse for overuse and possible addiction, especially for those engaged in internet gaming, and social networking sites. People from children to adults are at risk of addiction but children and adolescents are exceptionally vulnerable to using gadgets (addiction) to keep themselves distracted (escape) from problems & stress they go through and as a sense of belonging to the community and social acceptability. Spending more time and engaging with gadgets and social networking sites prevent them from involving in offline activities or physical play, interactions with family members and friends or relatives, and so on. The aim of this review paper is to theoretically review the literature regarding engagement with social networking sites and gadgets on family relationships and the well-being of children and adolescents, to explore the need and prevalence of increased engagement with SNS and Gadgets.
