Over time, India has developed into a powerful economic powerhouse. However, it must take advantage of its resources, such as the demographic dividend, which can be used as a growth driver. India is expected to surpass China as the world's most populous country by 2022, adding nearly 400 million people between 2012 and 2017 (UN.) and are relatively young, with a median age of 27, while dependency ratio will decline by 2% in 2020, bringing the economy into a sustainable high growth phase. Given this demographic advantage of expanding the proportion of working-age population to 60.3 percent of the overall population (Census2011), the Indian government has placed a strong emphasis on skill development and job creation. The current study aims to assess the current state of skill development and employment generation in India, as well as the difficulties that lie ahead in order to meet the country's skill and manpower needs by 2022.
