Degradation of polythene waste is feasible in the natural environment, it can take long periods of time, hundreds of year. Management and recycling of polythene waste became a serious global issue as it affects every aspect of living beings and their environment. In this review paper we summarized the biodegradation of different types of polyethylene (PE), with and without pretreatment or blended with biodegradable material by measuring changes in weight, ,tensile strength , growth of microorganism on polythene film, chemical and structural changes using techniques like as fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), etc.
