Abstract
Substance abuse refers to the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substance, including alcohol and illicit drugs. Psychoactive substance use lead to dependence syndrome. A cluster of behavioral, cognitive and physiological phenomena that develop after repeated substance use and that typically include a consequence, a higher priority given to drug use than to other activities and obliqueness increased tolerance, sometimes a physical withdrawal state. Substance abuse is more common in adolescent age group. This may have profound effects on physical and mental health. So the researchers felt need to conduct a study to assess the level of knowledge regarding substance abuse among college students. The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge regarding substance abuse among college students. Research methodology used in study was a descriptive research design and sampling technique used was convenient sampling. The sample size was 135 students. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Major findings of the study among demographic variables were, 77.04% had average knowledge regarding substance abuse and 21.48% had poor knowledge while 1.48% had good knowledge. At the end of the inferential analysis, the study identified that there was a significant association between the knowledge regarding substance abuse and few variables like gender, education, relationship with mother and habits whereas rest of the other variables had no significance in relation to the knowledge regarding substance abuse.
