Abstract

ABSTRACT A study to evaluate the “effectiveness of structured teaching programme on Bio-medical waste management in terms of knowledge and practice among B.Sc Nursing students in SAAII College of Medical Science and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh” was conducted by M.Sc Nursing 2nd Year Student of Amit Srivastava in partial fulfillment of the requirement of the degree on Masters of science in nursing at the SAAII College of Medical Science and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University Lucknow U.P. The Objectives of the study are 1. To assess the knowledge on biomedical waste management among B.Sc Nursing students in SAAII College of Medical Science and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. 2. To evaluate effectiveness of structured teaching programme on biomedical waste management among B.Sc Nursing students. 3. To find out an association between post test knowledge scores regarding biomedical waste management among B.Sc Nursing students with selected demographic variables. The conceptual frame work adopted for the study was based on general systems model by using nursing process approach. In view of nature of the problem selected and objective to be accomplished pre – experimental design was selected, one group pretest post- test design was considered most suitable for the study to evaluate effectiveness of structured teaching programme on bio – medical waste management. Simple random sampling technique was used and 30 B.Sc Nursing students were assessed in SAAII College of Medical Science and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The tool used for data collection was structured questionnaire and observational check list to assess the knowledge and practices on biomedical waste management. The reliability and validity of the tool was established by Content validity of the tool was established by giving to 5 experts structured teaching programme on bio-medical waste management was developed. The result of the major findings indicated that B.Sc Nursing students had inadequate knowledge in various aspects of bio-medical waste management during pre- test. Structured teaching programme was fond to be a very effective method of providing information regarding biomedical waste management. The mean post-test knowledge and practice are significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge and practice scores.
