The article focuses on the hardships faced by three women, who are on the way to self-realization, encircled by the indissoluble bonds of consanguinity. The three women had been bound to the care and affection of Leonard, whose death creates an imbalance in their life. Gail Kathleen Godwin, an American novelist, started her career as a journalist and explores the personal freedom in the life of women through her novels. One such novel, A Mother and Two Daughters unfurls the distinctiveness of triangulated lives of women in the community. Nell, Cate, and Lydia find their individuality after the death of Leonard, who had been their source of support throughout their life. In the absence of Leonard, they try to organize their life on the path to self-discovery. The act of self-actualization opens new doors in their life.
