Abstract
The gig economy is a form of free-market labour market in which freelance, short-term, and contractual jobs are more prevalent than permanent jobs. The gig economy has seen massive growth since the COVID-19 pandemic. It offers a range of occupations, including independent graphic designers, content producers, IT professionals, and ride-hailing firms such as Uber and Ola. In this system, workers come into a formal job agreement with on-demand companies. The study attempts to evaluate and understand the socio-economic standards, day-to-day problems and challenges in work culture, and the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats experienced by gig workers in selected areas of North Delhi city. The study focused on the issue of gig workers, using both primary and secondary data sources. The sample size was 150, and the sampling was done using a non-probability method. Descriptive analysis was used to analyse the data, supported by graphical representation. The study identified the following themes: educational background, safety concerns, workload, gender roles, work culture, and the health of workers in the gig economy sector in Wazirabad, North Delhi city.
