The present project titled “Implementing Lean Management Principles in Hospital Operations” is designed to examine the role of lean management in improving operational efficiency, reducing waste, enhancing patient flow, and strengthening the quality of healthcare service delivery. Hospitals are complex service organizations where clinical, administrative, and support functions operate simultaneously. Any delay or inefficiency in registration, outpatient services, diagnostics, pharmacy, billing, admission, discharge, inventory, or communication can directly affect patient satisfaction and staff productivity. Lean management provides a systematic approach to identifying value from the patient’s perspective and eliminating activities that do not add value. In the hospital context, non-value-added activities included long waiting time, repeated documentation, unnecessary movement, overstocking, delayed decision-making, poor workplace organization, and lack of standardized procedures. Tools such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Operating Procedures, visual management, root cause analysis, and the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle can help hospitals redesign processes in a practical and continuous manner. The study followed a descriptive and analytical research design. Primary data was collected through a structured questionnaire from hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, technicians, front-office staff, pharmacy staff, billing staff, support staff, patients, and patient attendants. Secondary data was collected from books, research articles, healthcare management reports, lean healthcare studies, and hospital quality improvement literature. The data was analysed using frequency distribution, percentage analysis, mean score, cross-tabulation, graphical presentation, and Excel-based tables wherever required. The outcome of the study is to identify the operational areas where lean management can be applied effectively and to provide practical suggestions for hospital administrators to reduce waste, improve coordination, increase patient satisfaction, and develop a culture of continuous improvement. The study is academically relevant to Hospital Administration and Healthcare Management and practically useful for improving day-to-day hospital operations.
