Land administration in West Bengal rests on the mouza cadastral survey system, a network of more than forty-four thousand village-level map sheets drawn at the historical scale of sixteen inches to one mile. Area measurement from these sheets is still largely carried out by hand, using transparent grid overlays or planimeters, a practice that is slow, demands specialised training, and is vulnerable to cumulative error as paper sheets age and degrade. This paper presents DeepMouza, a self-contained, browser-based application that automates plot-area measurement directly from a smartphone photograph of a mouza sheet, using a Rs. 5 Indian coin as a physical scale reference. The system combines four computational stages: a three-method coin detector — HSV-based gold masking with gradient-refined edge localisation, a colour-agnostic gradient-direction Hough accumulator, and a manual fallback — for pixel-to-millimetre calibration; Otsu global thresholding for binary boundary-map construction; breadth-first-search flood fill with automatic seed correction for plot-interior segmentation; and a multi-layer boundary-capture routine that applies the conventional surveying half-boundary rule to recover ink-line area normally lost to single-layer methods. A root-sum-of-squares uncertainty model built from five independent error sources yields a percentage confidence rating for every measurement. Evaluated on forty-seven plots drawn from twelve mouza sheets, the system achieved a mean absolute percentage error of 2.1 percent, with ninety-six percent of measurements falling within five percent of recorded ground truth, while requiring no server infrastructure and transmitting no image data beyond the user's own device.
