This study compares the effectiveness of patellar realignment training versus physiotherapeutic modalities (Ultrasound and Interferential Therapy), both paired with home exercises, to improve pain and activities of daily living (ADL) in patients with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS). Thirty patients aged 17 to 65 were randomized into two groups: Group A received patellar realignment training and home exercise, while Group B received physiotherapeutic modalities and home exercise. Both groups underwent 30-minute sessions, three times a week, for five weeks. Outcomes were measured on Day 1 and at Week 5 using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain and the WOMAC index for functional ability. After five weeks, both groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements in their VAS and WOMAC scores. However, the improvement was significantly greater in Group B compared to Group A (VAS p = 0.0014; WOMAC p = 0.0002). In conclusion, while both treatments are beneficial, physiotherapeutic modalities combined with home exercises are significantly more effective at reducing pain and improving ADL in PFPS patients than patellar realignment training with home exercises.
