Abstract
The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the design ecosystem has transformed traditional design practices, reshaping creativity, methodology, and ethics. This research paper investigates the evolving relationship between AI and design, focusing on how human creativity is being augmented—not replaced—by intelligent systems. AI-driven tools, especially generative design and machine learning models, have redefined ideation, prototyping, and user experience design, allowing for efficiency and personalization previously unattainable. However, this transformation also introduces profound ethical, legal, and societal concerns related to bias, authorship, and accountability. Through a combination of primary and secondary research, this study explores how designers are adapting to these shifts by developing new competencies such as AI literacy, data ethics, and human-AI interaction (HAX) design. Findings indicate that the designer’s role is evolving from a maker of artifacts to an orchestrator of systems, emphasizing strategic thinking, empathy, and ethical responsibility. The study concludes that the future of design is a human-AI partnership—where designers must balance algorithmic precision with human sensitivity to create meaningful, inclusive, and responsible outcomes. As AI continues to evolve, the design discipline must foster an adaptive, ethical, and interdisciplinary mindset that bridges technology and humanity, ensuring that design remains a tool for progress, empathy, and equity in a rapidly automated world.
