Acid reflux is a prevalent gastrointestinal condition that is often treated with proton pump inhibitors and synthetic antacids, both of which can have adverse reactions if used for an extended period of time. The goal of this study is to create and assess a new herbal in-situ gel formulation that uses extracts from Aloe barbadensis Miller (aloe vera) and Foeniculum vulgare (fennel seed) to effectively and sustainably treat acid reflux. The well-established carminative, anti-inflammatory, and gastroprotective properties of these herbal ingredients lead to their selection. The sodium alginate and guar gum, two ion-sensitive polymers used in the formulation's preparation, allow for a sol-to-gel transition when they come into contact with stomach fluid, extending the duration of gastric retention and facilitating the controlled release of active ingredients.Evaluation of pH, viscosity, gelation capacity, in vitro buoyancy and in vitro drug release were all part of the comprehensive study of the formulation. The optimized formulation showed continuous release of active components over a long period of time, appropriate viscosity for oral administration, and quick in-situ gelation. The results lend support to the herbal in-situ gel's potential as a natural, safe, and efficient treatment for acid reflux.
