Abstract

ABSTRACT Mary Wollstonecraft, widely recognised as the progenitor of feminism, immediately comes to mind when considering the field of feminist studies. When examining the subject matter via a feminist lens, it becomes evident that the significance of individuals extends beyond their professional contributions, including the entirety of their existence in relation to feminist ideology. The individual in question was born in England on, 1759. She was a renowned feminist writer of the 18th century who espoused empowering feminist ideology. Mary Wollstonecraft created a seminal literary work titled "Vindication of the Rights of Women," which was released in 1792. This paper aims to provide an analysis of the socio-cultural status of women throughout the 18th century, with a focus on identifying the factors that contributed to their subjugation. Furthermore, it seeks to explore the various initiatives and movements that emerged during this period, which paved the way for the advancement and empowerment of women. According to Wollstonecraft, the condition of illiteracy and unemployment among women contributes to their continued dependence on others, rendering them unable to effectively resist the various forms of oppression inflicted upon them. In this study, Mary posits that the provision of high-quality education for women is crucial in affording them the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities. By doing so, women may enhance their personal growth and simultaneously play an active role in the development of their families, communities, and nations. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of Mary Wollstonecraft's literary contributions, specifically focusing on her seminal book, "A Vindication of the Rights of Women." It examines the significance of Wollstonecraft's work and her personal experiences in relation to the women of her era, highlighting their enduring relevance in contemporary society.
