Abstract

The potential anti-angiogenic activity of Artemisia vulgaris, a medicinal plant with various pharmacological characteristics, was assessed through in silico molecular docking studies. Normal development and diseases such as cancer, diabetic retinopathy, and rheumatoid arthritis rely on the physiological process of angiogenesis, which creates new blood vessels from existing vasculature. Angiogenesis, the physiological process by which new blood vessels are formed from pre-existing vasculature, is crucial for normal development and conditions like cancer, diabetic retinopathy, and rheumatoid arthritis. This process is tightly regulated by several growth factors and their receptors. In this study, key phytoconstituents of Artemisia vulgaris were docked against these angiogenesis-related proteins to assess their potential as inhibitors. The binding affinities and interaction profiles of several compounds from Artemisia vulgaris revealed strong binding to the target proteins, which may suggest that they modulate angiogenic signaling pathways. The therapeutic potential of Artemisia vulgaris as a natural source of anti-angiogenic agents is supported by these findings.
