Abstract
ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Mental illness always neglect by the family members when someone got the mental illness and leads to illness. In the acute phase the members of the family will be affected and alarmed at the same time during that time as to what is happening to their loved ones. After the completion of the episode when they are back to their home the members of the family feels relief to a great extent. Everyone whomsoever want this painful phase to be kept in the fact and focused is done towards the future although some members in the family understand about the reality of the illness but others don’t understand it. The people who are aware and accept the truth regarding mental ill person found that they should be kept safe from people who don’t understand and criticize and blame the affected people for their unusual doings and behaviour that is not acceptable and their incapability to achieve something in life OBJECTIVES: 1) To assess the knowledge regarding misconception towards the mental illness among the people selected area of Meerut. 2) To find out the association between the knowledge regarding misconception towards mental illness with their selected demographical variables. METHODOLOGY: DESIGN: One group pre test was selected for the study. SUBJECTS: The participants were 100 people of Meerut. SAMPLING METHOD: A purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample of the study. DATA COLLECTION TOOL: A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect data from the subjects. DATA ANALYSIS: The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and interpreted in terms of objectives and hypotheses of the study. The level of significance was set at 0.05 levels. RESULT: The chi square table represents that apart from the demographic variables educational status there were no significant association between the knowledge scores with their demographic variables such as age, sex, religion, marital status, occupation, monthly income, type of family, and residence of the participants. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that there is lack of knowledge about mental illness in the community.
