Abstract
The present study aimed to explore the relationship between locus of control and health- promoting behaviors among young adults aged 18 to 25 years. A total of 60 participants were recruited, and data was collected using Google Forms. The tools used for assessment were the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP) to measure engagement in health-promoting behaviors and Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale to assess individuals' perceived control over life events. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson’s product-moment correlation. Results revealed a significant correlation between internal locus of control and health-promoting behaviors (r = -0.480, p = 0.007), indicating that individuals with a more internal locus of control were more likely to engage in health-promoting behaviors. A strong and statistically significant negative relationship between Health-Promoting Lifestyle (HPL) and External Locus of Control (LOC)was found, with a correlation coefficient of -0.582 and a p-value of .001 (p < .05). These findings highlight the importance of fostering internal health beliefs in young adults to encourage positive lifestyle choices.
