सारांश - किसी शहर की सामाजिक संरचना के निर्माण में कई तत्वों के समायोजन से संरचना होती है और वह शहर अपनी एक विशेष रूपरेखा के आधार पर ही देश दुनिया के नक्शे पर अपनी पहचान निर्धारित करता है। इंदौर पहले बात इसके भूगोल की जाए तो पठार पर स्थिति यह काली मिट्टी का उर्वर क्षेत्र डग डग रोटी, पग-पग नीर वाली कहावत से जुड़ा है हालांकि बढ़ती आबादी ने पग-पग नीर समाप्त कर दिया है। तुकोजीराव होलकर द्वितीय ने व्यापारियों को इंदौर आने और बसने के लिए आमंत्रित किया। अफीम, कपास, इत्र व अन्य कई वस्तुओं के व्यापार ने सबसे पहले इस ओर आकर्षित किया। वहीं जब यहाँ मिलें स्थापित हुई और चहूं ओर उद्योग धंधों में बढ़ोतरी हुई तो मजदूर वर्ग व आम आदमी भी इस मध्य प्रांत के विकासशील शहर की ओर सभी प्रांतों से आने लगे। विभिन्न प्रशासनिक संगठन, सामाजिक संगठन, राजनीतिक संगठन, धार्मिक संगठन, साहित्यिक व सांस्कृतिक संगठन और इंदौर शहर की अदम्य जिजीविषा मिलकर इसकी सामाजिक संरचना तैयार करते हैं। जिसमें हिंदू, मुस्लिम, सिख, ईसाई व अब तो कई विदेशी छात्र भी निवास करते हैं।
