Abstract
Background: Work related musculoskeletal disorders are common problems among the workers engaged in unorganised sectors. House maids are employed for various tasks, such as cooking ,washing clothes and utensils, lifting, dusting ,cutting , cleaning the house etc. Lateral epicondylitis is a common work related musculoskeletal disorder. It is an overuse injury involving the origin of common extensor tendon at elbow joint. Repetitive overloading/microtrauma on the extensor muscles of the elbow leads to lateral epicondylitis. So the need arises to find out the prevalence of lateral epicondylitis in housemaids. Aim: To find out prevalence of lateral epicondylitis in housemaids. Objective: To assess the lateral epicondylitis on dominant hand in housemaids by using Cozens test. To assess the pain by using Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). To assess effect of epicondylitis on the strength of wrist and elbow joint. Methodology: In this observational study 136 housemaids between the age group 18-45 years were included by using convenient sampling technique and having work experience of minimum 6 month with working hour minimum 6-7 hr/ day. Lateral epicondylitis were assessed by using Cozens test. Result: Total 136 housemaids the prevalence of cozens test were 69.12% were positive , 30.12% were negative. To check pain by using NPRS 69.12% were in the worst pain ,28.68% were moderate pain. The strength of extensor muscles of elbow affected in lateral epicondylitis. Conclusion: The aim of the study to find out prevalence of lateral epicondylitis in housemaids. In this study the housemaids are more prone for lateral epicondylitis. In dominant hand right hand more prone for lateral epicondylitis comparatively affected hand is found to be on lower side. Also reduced the strength of the extensor muscles of the wrist and elbow.
