The trend nowadays is reviving the use of plant-based materials to lessen the worsening effects of climate change due to the wide use of synthetic and plastic packaging and tying materials materials. This study identified the plants, trees and their respective parts used as packaging and tying materials. Interviewed were 48 folk-vendors. Their average age is 46.29 years and, 93.75% were female. Majority were married. It was found out that 41.67% of the products were wrapped and tied by banana leaves and stalks; 16.67% used coconut young leaves; 10.42% used “tabung” leaves. While 2.08% used the leaves of “payhud” to hasten the ripening of bananas. And, 2.08% used dried duhat leaves for tobacco cigarette. Meanwhile, as tying materials Abaca stem got 6.25%; 4.17% used “Buri” leaves; while another 4.17% used the stem of “ban-ban”; and, 4.167% used “nito” and rattan. Lastly, 2.08% used wood slabs as container-storage for dried fish, and, 6.25% used bamboo as container for poultry and some forest products. This study revealed that these folk - vendors are still using locally-grown packaging and tying materials. Thus, it is highly recommended that the identified ethno-packaging and tying materials should be adopted, and, the local sources should be preserved, protected and propagated as substitute for the synthetic or plastic packaging and tying materials.
