Tourism is the fastest growing sector of world economy and contributes significantly to its growth. One of the crucial factors which aid or determine the growth of tourism sector in an area is the presence of good infrastructure as it creates a positive impression in the minds of the tourists and further promotes the flow of tourists in an area because of the ambiance created by it. Bihar is an Indian state with a glorious historical past, mesmerising natural beauty and diverse religious and cultural attributes. However, with the passage of time its glory was shadowed and the state somewhat lagged in development. Tourism is a sector in which the state shows a vast potential for development. During the past two decades the state has witnessed an increase in the footfall of tourists and simultaneously the tourism infrastructure has also shown an increase but the potential of this sector is still under utilised in the state owning to a not so developed infrastructure facilities. The state Government has made a lot of effort and plans to develop the supporting infrastructural facilities for tourism. The present chapter makes an attempt to assess the state of major components of tourism infrastructure in Bihar and to highlight the efforts of the Government in this direction. It will also suggest suggestions to improve the situation. This is an exploratory study and is based on secondary data and information obtained from different Government and non-governmental sources and through electronic media and e-resources.
