Aspirin, or acetyl salicylic acid (ASA), is a non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory drug (NSAID) which is used to reduce pain, fever and inflammation. Because of its anti platelet activity, aspirin is also used in the management of cardio vascular diseases.. This article aim is to provide an overview of aspirin role as an anti platelet drug by understanding its mechanism of action, efficacy and its therapeutic uses. Aspirin shows its effects by irreversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 which leads to decrease in thromboxane A2 production and decreased platelet aggregation. This action plays key role in preventing acute coronary events, strokes and other thromboembolic conditions. This review will explore the studies regarding the benefits and limitations of aspirin and its treatment. By summarizing current evidences and future directions, this review aims to provide a good understanding of aspirins therapeutic potential and limitations.
