Land use, Population Growth, and Urban Sprawl

The continuous growth of cities results in rapid changes in land use and the expansion of the city's area, typically including the surrounding regions. This phenomenon has various harmful impacts on the urban environment of the city. First of all, cities face problems generated by urban sprawl. A sprawling city consumes a wide range of surrounding agricultural areas and converts them into fragments. With the passage of time, these fragmented areas of agricultural land, vacant lands, and green spaces get reduced and converted into built-up areas of various uses. Likewise, the city becomes larger and larger in terms of built-up area and smaller in open/green spaces. This study will discuss the distribution of population and population growth in the city. It will also discuss the changing land use patterns in the city. The study is based on secondary source of data to obtain these objectives.
