Abstract Current cancer treatments, particularly chemotherapy, necessitate new approaches due to their adverse side effects. A significant area of recent interest is the use of nanoparticles. Functionalizing metal-based nanoparticles has shown great promise in drug delivery, as several studies have demonstrated that these nanoparticles can enhance target specificity. This improvement allows for lower drug dosages while maintaining treatment efficacy, thereby reducing side effects. This review focuses on metal-based nanoparticles and their advancements in treating various types of cancer.
