Students are the future of the nation and education is the very source for the individual and national development from all the aspects. Education considered as an instrument for improving the socio-economic conditions of the country and an instrument for promoting the values, beliefs, culture, tradition, civilisation, language and religion. Education contributes to the establishment of organized, harmonious, peaceful and democratic societies in modern context. During physical, emotional, psychological, financial, social and educational changes, students may undergo difficulties. At this juncture, what is required is self-awareness of their adjustment problems of the students and then doing our best to help them in difficulties. So, one of the important goals of home and school is to keep the pupils adapting to the changing environment. Lack of maturity growth has detrimental consequences on every area of life. The term maturity is used in a number of areas, such as physical, intellectual, emotional, social, educational, and even spiritual. Man is a social creature, and he could not survive without it. The ability to act responsibly while learning the social laws and norms of a certain culture and using that information successfully is characterized as social maturity. Social maturity is defined by an individual’s capacity to interact with others in social situations and handle social interactions without the assistance of others. This paper deals with Social Maturity among higher secondary students in relation to their gender, type of college and parents’ monthly income.
