Abstract

In the context of the Indian economy, Priority Sector Lending (PSL) is a policy initiative aimed at directing financial resources to specific sectors that are crucial for the country's development but often face challenges in accessing institutional credit. These sectors include agriculture, micro and small enterprises, and others that play a vital role in economic growth and social well-being. Despite the policy's long-standing presence since the 1970s, there is a noticeable reluctance among bank officials to disburse loans under PSL. Additionally, customers who are supposed to benefit from PSL frequently encounter obstacles in obtaining these loans. To delve deeper into this issue, a comprehensive study was conducted involving the administration of a structured questionnaire to a diverse group of participants. The sample included 450 clients representing various PSL categories such as agriculture, small businesses, education, housing, and others. The aim was to gather insights into their experiences, perceptions, and challenges related to PSL. The data collected from these questionnaires were subjected to statistical analysis using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This method was chosen to identify any significant differences in the attitudes and experiences of different groups of participants. The analysis sought to uncover the specific reasons for the low inclination towards PSL and the difficulties faced by customers. By understanding these factors, the study aims to provide recommendations for improving the effectiveness and uptake of PSL, thereby ensuring that the intended beneficiaries can access the financial support they need.
