Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, one of the prominent writers of Bengali literature in the 1930s, is normally known as a nature-loving author. This love for nature is particularly evident in his novel "Aranyak," set against the backdrop of Bihar. It is true that nature is at the heart of his literature, but he does not create an unrealistic dreamworld as an escape from life. A curious glance reveals not only the mysterious forest nature of Narha, Boihar-Lobtulia, Madhubani, and Mohanpura, but also the daily struggles of the poor forest-dwelling people. The novel is filled with the exploitative relationships between landlords, moneylenders, and tenants, the conflict between wealthy and poor tenants, and the helplessness of farmers and agricultural laborers. In this essay, we have attempted to thoroughly analyze this often-overlooked aspect of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's novel "Aranyak."
