Abstract

The need for effective and long-lasting cleanup methods arose from the increasing contamination of the environment. This study highlights the efficacy of novel microbial techniques for in-situ and ex-situ bioremediation in reducing a range of contaminants. Using local microbial populations to break down contaminants without excavating the place is known as "in-situ bioremediation." On the other hand, ex-situ procedures need the removal of contaminated materials for off-site treatment. The processes by which various microbial strains—such as fungus, bacteria, and algae—contribute to the breakdown of both organic and inorganic contaminants are covered in the review. Recent developments in genetic engineering and microbial consortia that improve degradation resilience and efficiency are highlighted. It is being investigated whether bioremediation may be combined with other technologies like nanotechnology and phytoremediation. Analyzed are case studies showing effective implementations in a range of environmental scenarios, such as soil, water, and industrial waste. The study ends by outlining the problems that still need to be solved and suggesting future lines of inquiry for improving microbial bioremediation techniques. These results highlight how crucial it is to use microbiological potential in order to accomplish environmentally sound rehabilitation.
