Parenting, Perceived Parenting, and School-Going Adolescents.

Perceived parenting refers to how teens view their parents’ parenting style based on their own interpretations. This is the parenting style that teenagers or children believe that they inherited from their parents during childhood and adolescence. The way parents interact with their children can affect their emotions, health, and overall development. The present study was carried out through the descriptive survey method by administering Parenting Scale: (P-scale)-(Developed by Bharadwaj, Sharma, and Garg (1998) and Bengali version developed by Adhikari (2007) on a random sample of 530 School-going adolescent students of age group 14 to 18 years from Govt-sponsored secondary schools in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. The results of the study indicate that the school going adolescents have positive perception about parenting style; and there was significant gender difference found, where females were excelled their male counterparts. So, it might be concluded that, the school going adolescents may have good learning style, influence of self-regulated learning, higher self-efficacy and highly self-motivated, having better emotional well-being, self-esteem and resilience.
