Abstract
ABSTRACT: Periodontitis is refers to a number of inflammatory diseases affecting the periodontium, the supporting tissues around the teeth. proniosome may be a locally acting drug delivery system for the cure of periodontitis. The present research work planned to prepare and evaluate DOXCY and TTO loaded proniosomal gel for periodontitis treatment. DOXCYCLINE and TTO loaded proniosomal gels prepared by coacervation phase separation method using span 60, span 80, and span 40 as surfactants, cholesterol and lecithin used as stabilizers. All the formulations were evaluated for encapsulation efficiency, partical size and percent drug release. The optimised formulation was incorporated into carbopol gel to make orogel for local drug delivery. Prepared formulation was studied for ex vivo permeation and skin irritation test. The in vitro drug release results suggest controlled release for 12 hr. The results suggest the presence of surfactants and lecithin increases the permeation of drug through the chicken buccal mucosa. The formulation improved cell availability, increased antibacterial activity by increasing drug deposition at the site of action, and reducing dose of the drug.
