Abstract
Duplex stainless-steel plates of grade 2205 welded with solid filler wire of grade 2209 were welded using GMAW process by three different metal transfer modes, namely Spray, Globular and Dip or short circuit. The heat treatment on samples were carried out at 620°C holding for 140 minutes followed by furnace cooling. The effects on hardness, microstructure, corrosion resistance and % chemical elements were studied. No significant changes in hardness observed after heat treatment, however HAZ shows higher hardness than weld and base metal. Microstructural study shows no major changes in microstructure after the heat treatment and no intermetallic phase observed under optical microscope up to 500 X. Spray transfer mode welded sample shows narrowest HAZ. All as welded and heat-treated samples exhibits good pitting corrosion resistance in cyclic polarization test as passivation of the protective film regenerated, however among three samples, Dip transfer mode welded samples has lowest corrosion rate before and after Heat treatment.
