Machilus macrantha Nees bark (Lauraceae) has long been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis, and asthma. The evergreen tree Machilus macrantha Nees (Lauraceae) is also referred to as "Gulmaau, Golum, Pisara, and Kurma." It is widely distributed throughout the Deccan and Peninsular regions of India and Sri Lanka. The plant is traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, anti-tuberculosis, anti-ulcer, and consumption properties. It is also used for a variety of folkloric purposes, including the treatment of bone fractures, weakness, and debility. The plant's pharmacological properties, including its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, CNS-depressant, hypotensive, and other properties, have been studied recently using both in-vitro and in-vivo models. Thus, the goal of this review is to offer a thorough analysis of Machilus macrantha’s pharmacognostical, phytochemical, and pharmacological characteristics as well as its ethno-medicinal applications.
