Abstract
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a critical component of the internet infrastructure, translating human-readable domain names into IP addresses. Recursive DNS resolvers play a pivotal role in this process, especially in large network environments where efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount. This paper explores the implementation of recursive DNS in large networks, examining its architectural considerations, performance optimization techniques, and security measures. By reviewing current literature and empirical studies, we aim to identify best practices and potential challenges in deploying recursive DNS at scale. The literature review synthesizes findings from 20 key papers, highlighting advancements in DNS technologies and their applications in large networks. Our research identifies a gap in comprehensive performance benchmarks and security analysis specific to large-scale recursive DNS deployments. To address this, we propose a methodology for evaluating recursive DNS performance and security in large networks, using a combination of simulation and real-world data. The paper concludes with a comparative analysis of previous research findings, offering insights into the strengths and weaknesses of different recursive DNS implementations. Future work will focus on enhancing DNS resilience against emerging threats and optimizing performance through machine learning and advanced caching strategies. This study aims to provide a robust foundation for network administrators and researchers seeking to implement or improve recursive DNS in large network environments.
