Ransomware has emerged as a pervasive and disrup tive cyber threat, targeting individuals, businesses, and organiza tions worldwide. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of ransomware, including its history, evolution, methodologies, im pact on victims, and mitigation strategies. The study explores the various infection vectors used by ransomware, such as phishing emails, exploit kits, and vulnerabilities in software and systems. It delves into the encryption techniques employed by ransomware to render files inaccessible and examines the communication channels through which ransom demands are made. The paper also discusses the economic and societal implications of ran somware attacks, highlighting the financial losses, data breaches, and operational disruptions faced by victims. Furthermore, the study reviews existing countermeasures and best practices for preventing, detecting, and responding to ransomware incidents, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity awareness, regular software updates, data backups, and incident response planning.
