Abstract
The tale of The Metamorphosis unfolds with the plight of Gregor Samsa, a travelling salesman, awakening one fateful morning to find himself transformed into a grotesque vermin. Despite his monstrous form, Gregor retains his human intellect and emotions, yet he becomes imprisoned and concealed within his own room by his family. Gradually, he descends into a path of ruin and ultimate annihilation. This succinct summary highlights the allegorical nature of Kafka's work, which, like much of his oeuvre, transcends mere realism to offer profound allegorical layers.The narrative serves as a poetic image with a rich emotive resonance and vast interpretative possibilities. Rather than being taken at face value, The Metamorphosis demands to be read through the lens of allegory, inviting philosophical and psychological scrutiny. Specifically, Kafka's work can be viewed as an existential and psychological allegory, exploring themes of alienation, identity crisis, and the absurdity of human existence. This study endeavours to delve into these intricate layers, unveiling the profound philosophical and psychological insights embedded within Kafka's masterful narrative.
