Introduction: The number of elderly people is increasing at a faster pace all around the world so as in India. Aging causes a lot of body system changes and one of the most affected organs is the eye. Problems in vision can cause decreased quality of life and puts them at risk of falls and other injuries. Dry eye disease is the one of the common problems faced by older adults. It has to be considered as major public health problem which need immediate attention. Warm compresses are very effective for home treatment of different ailments. A warm compress eye mask reduce inflammation or melt accumulated oil that refuses to drain and relieve dry eye disease. Objectives/Purpose: The objective of the study was to find out whether warm compress is effective in reducing the level of dry eye among elderly in selected old age homes. Methods: Quantitative approach was used and the design selected was quasi experimental pre-post- test control group design. Sample size was 66 with 34 senior citizens from SALVA care home in the experimental group and 32 senior citizens from Karunalayam old age home in the control group. Samples were selected using Purposive sampling technique. Schirmer’s 1 tear test was used to assess the level of dry eye among elderly. Warm compress was provided to the experimental group for 6 days and post -test done on the7th day in both experimental and control group. The approval for the study was obtained from Institutional Ethical Committee of Al-Shifa College of Nursing. Letter no. ACN/PPL/MSc-DIS/2018-19/16. Result: The pre-test and post-test level of dry eye in the Experimental group with Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Value of R eye was 5.02, p<0.001 and L eye was 4.83, p<0.00. The mean post- test of tear level was higher in the group receiving warm compress than in control group with Mann-Whitney U value of 310.5(p=0.003**) on R eye and 352.5(p=0.014**) on L eye. Conclusion: The study opined that warm compress is effective in reducing the level of dry eye among elderly. A warm compress is an easy, safe and economical methods that can be used to treat dryness of eyes among older adults.
