डॉ० जयभगवान शर्मा के साहित्य का परिचयात्मक विश्लेषण में पद्य साहित्य पर प्रकाश डाला गया है। डॉ० जयभगवान शर्मा समकालीन साहित्य संसार के एक महत्वपूर्ण हस्ताक्षर हैं।इनकी विविधगामी कृतिया इनके व्यक्तित्व का प्रमाण हैं। यही कारण है कि देखते ही देखते इन्होंने राष्ट्रीय साहित्यिक परिदृश्य पर अपनी पुष्ट पहचान बना ली है। आज एक विशिष्ट कवि हाइकुकार निबंधकार, शोधक समीक्षक, संपादक के रूप में साहित्य के सभी क्षेत्रों में डॉ० शर्मा के योगदान की चर्चा यत्र-तत्र सर्वत्र सुनी जा सकती है। डॉ० जयभगवान शर्मा मानवीय संवेदना के धरातल पर विश्वास रखने वाले कवि हैं। जो बड़ी शिद्दत के साथ आम आदमी से जुड़े हुए हैं। डॉ० शर्मा वैचारिक प्रतिबद्धता के कवि है। इनके काव्य में सहज, पैनापन तथा विषय की विराटता का दर्शन असीम सागर की तरह फैला हुआ है। उनकी रचनाए जीवन के इर्द-गिर्द पांव पसारती विसंगतियों को उघाड़ती हैं और एक नए मार्ग का निर्माण करती है। डॉ० शर्मा का कार्य संगत जीवन मूल्यों को स्वर देता है। उनका काव्य सामाजिक सुधार का एक प्रबल माध्यम और औजार है। कविताएं सामाजिक व्यवस्था चरमराने से रोकने और मानव को अज्ञानता की अंधेरी गुफा में जाने का मार्ग अवरुद्ध करती हैं। काव्य सृजन में इनका उच्च स्थान है। कवि डॉ० जयभगवान शर्मा की लगभग चार दशक की काव्य-यात्रा में कविताए हाइकु, गजल, दोहा आदि काव्य विधाओं में इनका वैविध्यपूर्ण कृतित्व दर्शनीय है। डॉ० शर्मा का प्रथम काव्य संग्रह ’स्पंदन सन् 2010 में प्रकाशित हुआ था। तत्पश्चात इनकी क्षितिज के पार वक्त के पंख, पथ के राही झरता पानी हाइकु संग्रह ’स्लोगन वल्लरी’ स्लोगन, प्रतिदान तथा गवाक्ष कविता संग्रह आदि अनेक महत्वपूर्ण काव्य कृतियाँ प्रकाशित हो चुकी हैं। डॉ० शर्मा ने अपने काव्य संग्रह में विसंगतियों और विषमताओं को उद्घाटित करने का साहसिक प्रयास किया है। आधुनिक युग की घुटन तनाव और संत्रास से जूझती मानव मन की पीड़ा को पूरी निष्ठाए नैतिकता, सामाजिकता और धार्मिकता के साथ पूरी ईमानदारी से जीवंत किया है। वस्तुतः युग चेतना की अभिव्यक्ति ने. डॉ० शर्मा की कविताओं को अधिकाधिक समसामयिक और प्रामाणिक बनाने में सहयोग किया है।
