Abstract
To study the Influence of Violent Video Games on the psychological parameters of pre-adolescent boys and girls to analyze depression, anxiety, aggression, hostility, and failure to excellence. The study was carried on 100 boys and 100 girls from Mumbai suburban district, Maharashtra. The average age of the boys was 14.92 years whereas the average age of girls was 14.68 years. The study was administered to assess the aggression and anxiety of pre-adolescent boys and girls with help of Violent Video Games questionnaire and Buss-Perie Scale for Aggression. Standardized procedures were adapted to administer the pencil-paper test. The design of the study was a survey method and sample selected through purposive sampling method. The result indicated that the psychological parameters of 13 years boys as compared to girls are more influenced by violent video games. The mean score of hostiles in girls is 18.57% as compared to boys which is 27.82%, whereas Mean score of aggression in girls is 24.32% as compared to boys at 19.81% and the mean score of anxiety in boys is high at 52.37% as compared to girls at 42.49%. The result indicated that the psychological parameters of 14 years boys as compared to girls are more influenced by violent video games. The mean score of hostiles in girls 17.34% as compared to boys which is 19.63%, whereas Mean score of aggression in girls is 29.74% as compared to boys at 34.87% and the mean score of anxiety in girls is high at 47.08% as compared to boys at 45.50%. The result indicated that the psychological parameters of 15 years boys as compared to girls are more influenced by violent video games. The mean score of hostiles in girls is 9.86% as compared to boys which is 12.29%, whereas Mean score of aggression in girls is 37.66% as compared to boys at 43.62% and the mean score of anxiety in girls is high at 52.48% as compared to boys at 44.09%. The result revealed that boys are more hostile by nature due to the influence of violent video games as the age progresses from 13 years to 15 years as compared to girls. Whereas the result reveals that as the age progresses from 13 years to 15 years boys’ anxiety decreases and girls’ anxiety increases due to influence of violent video games. The result revealed the aggression increases subsequently in boys and girls due to the influence of violent video games.
