Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of hot application nursing intervention in applying hot sitz bath with potassium permanganate on episiotomy wound healing and pain among postnatal mothers. A non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select 100 postnatal mothers (Experimental group - 50 and Control group - 50 samples) at Sri Padmavathi Multi-Speciality Hospital, Tirupati. The study findings revealed that out of the 100 samples in the REDDA scale, in both the experimental group and the control group, the percentages were as follows: in the experimental group, 78% experienced wound healing, while in the control group, it was 74%; 14% of the experimental group and 18% of the control group experienced moderate healing, while 8% of both groups experienced mild healing.. Out of 100 samples in the numerical pain scale, in the experimental group, 24% experienced no pain, while in the control group, it was 4%; 24% of the experimental group and 20% of the control group experienced mild pain, while 22% of the experimental group and 34% of the control group experienced moderate pain, and 30% of the experimental group and 42% of the control group experienced severe pain. T- values regarding REDDA scale in the experimental group, the mean value is 6.28, the standard deviation value is 12.924. In the control group, the mean value is 7.32, the standard deviation value is 12.585. In this, the "t" value is 0.422, and the significance is 0.674. T- values regarding pain scale, in the experimental group, the mean value is 4.22, the standard deviation value is 3.364. In the control group, the mean value is 7.32; the standard deviation value is 7.32. In this the "t" value is 2.656, and the significance is 0.009. There is a statistically significant association between socio-demographic variables and pain scale among postnatal mothers in the experimental group. Age, parity, occupation, and income are significant at p < 0.01, while place of residence, birth weight of the baby, and BMI are significant at p < 0.05.Similarly, in the control group, there is a statistically significant association between socio-demographic variables and pain scale. Income and type of episiotomy are significant at p < 0.01, while type of family and BMI are significant at p < 0.05. CONCLUSION The primary goal of the study was to determine the efficacy of hot application on episiotomy wound healing and pain in postnatal mothers. The statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the post-test levels of wound healing and pain scores in the experimental group, indicating that the given hot application was effective.
