| Abstract: | The environment on earth is degrading at a very fast rate. The main causes of it are the anthropogenic activities. Most of these activities are generating huge amount of waste. If this waste is discarded improperly itcontaminates not only land but water and air as well. One such waste is the remains of cigarette after smoking that is the cigarette butt.Cigarette butt littering is causing a huge environmental problem because they leach harmful chemicals and are non-biodegradable. But there is general lack of awareness among smokers regarding the proper disposal of CB. Also some personality traits like conscientiousness may influence their tendency towards littering. Keeping this in mind, investigators were prompted to study the behavior of the people of Dubai in terms of their awareness and attitude towards cigarette butt littering. Investigators also tried to study the relationship of conscientiousness with awareness and attitude towards cigarette butt littering. For this self constructed scales of Awareness and Attitude towards Cigarette butt littering and Conscientiousness were used to study and collect the data. A sample of 99 adults (both smokers and non-smokers) residing in Dubai were surveyed. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that Conscientiousness has a direct and significant correlation with awareness and attitude towards the prevention of cigarette butt littering. Male adults showed better awareness and attitude, towards preventing cigarette butt littering than female adults. Similarly, working adults showed better awareness and attitude, towards preventing cigarette butt littering than non-working adults. |
