Abstract
In Sadanga, Philippines, deep-rooted customs shape their society, with wedding traditions being particularly intricate and meaningful. These practices foster community unity and reinforce their ethnic identity. However, external influences like education, religion, and intermarriage have led to changes in these traditions. Originally, marriage rituals served to legalize unions, share the fruits of labor, and strengthen family and community ties. Today, they emphasize social status and living standards due to economic, social, and cultural shifts, posing a threat to the community's heritage. In the past, parents arranged marriages based on wealth and status, but this practice has diminished with the spread of Christian teachings and modernization. Nonetheless, Sadanga's wedding customs remain unique and vital to preserve while adapting to contemporary times. To navigate these changes while safeguarding their heritage, it's crucial to understand the underlying forces. Striking a balance between tradition and adaptation allows Sadanga to celebrate their identity, foster a sense of community, and protect their cultural legacy.
