This research paper explores the complex realm of crack growth in cylindrical bars, focusing on the atomic-level phenomena involving the breakage and separation of atomic bonds and the movement of dislocations within the material structure. The study explores how new surfaces are formed in solids as cracks nucleate and expand due to applied loads. The paper discusses the adaptation of materials to critical levels of load and the factors leading to stable or unstable crack growth. Various fatigue life methods, including stress-life, strain-life, and linear-elastic fracture mechanics, are analyzed, and the paper investigates the impact of elliptical cracks on cylindrical bars using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
