Abstract
Technology-mediated distance learning is growing in popularity in developed and developing nations. Modern technologies provide flexibility in how and when information can be taught. Distance learning is becoming the core of education for development in many countries. Email has been used for a long time to deliver education via the Internet. Such training is a continuous process of learning. There is more to distance learning. Future distance learning will need to be: culturally diverse, flexible in terms of time and location, free from geographical barriers, competitive in terms of cost and value, learner-centered with less emphasis on lecture-style classes, high-tech in terms of incorporating new media and computer applications as part of instructor presentations and course work, and growth-oriented from the perspectives of the individual and organization. Most important, integrating a variety of tools and resources to help students learn the course material makes an online course effective. Online courses give students greater flexibility and the opportunity to learn at their own pace without sacrificing their academic performance in any manner. It is not helpful for the students only, it is a great help for the professionals who are planning to learn new skills and earn degree/certificate while working.
