Africa’s youth are her greatest asset. Despite of being a potential resource, they continue to wallow in poverty for lack of decent and productive jobs normally found in the formal sector. Because of lack of such jobs in the formal sector, the youth in Africa take the informal sector as their safe haven where they can go in order to cushion themselves from the pangs of poverty. Surprisingly, the informal sector particularly agriculture where the youth form the largest percentage in terms of employment is in a sorry state. Lack of job security in all its manifestations is what characterises the sector. Therefore, by the youth entering the sector (informal), it is like jumping from the frying pan into fire. The paper begins with introduction, methodology, and goes on to look at the youth in the informal sector. The next section defines the informal sector followed by the characteristics of the informal sector. The next section deals with Quality of Jobs for the youth in Africa.
